Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890) - Auvers-sur-Oise - July 1890 - Oil on canvas 50 cm x 100 cm.
Back to his roots: a few hours after he had been painting this farewell, this big "TreeRoots" canvas, he fatally shot himself in his chest and layed himself to rest between "these roots", as You can see in the painting. The vanGogh-museum in A'dam has confirmed that this was his final painting, made in the hours before the shooting.
